Haunted by The Past
Haunted by the past,
and the memories it leaves,
in a mind backwards cast,
or in the images of sleep.

Regretting events unchangeable,
from a time long since gone.
Frustrated by the unforgettable
episodes that linger on.

Wishing to regain lost time,
and recapture vanished dreams.
When imaginations not reason nor rhyme,
and fantasy's not what it seems.

For the mind has its desires,
but reality has its predestined ways.
And they burst into a raging fire.
a clashing of now and yesterday.

Looking back at wasted years,
mixed emotions from the soul,
arise in the form of bitter tears,
a yearning for days of long ago.
